    Materials We Work With

    Pressure-Treated Lumber

The most popular choice for fences in Ontario. Pressure-treated wood uses copper-based preservatives to resist decay and insect damage. It's affordable and durable, though it requires a water repellent or stain to protect against moisture over time. We use Canadian-sourced pressure-treated lumber on the majority of our fence builds.

    Cedar

Cedar is naturally resistant to decay and insects thanks to its oil preservative, and its beautiful grain and texture make it one of the most visually appealing fencing materials available. It's lighter than pressure-treated wood and ages beautifully. Cedar typically costs about two and a half times more than pressure-treated, but many homeowners find the natural look worth the investment.

    Iron & Decorative

For decorative gates and accent fencing, we work with iron components from suppliers like Nuvo Iron. These add a refined look to entrances, garden borders, and mixed-material fence designs.

    Built to Last Ontario's Seasons

We build every fence ourselves — no subcontractors, no shortcuts. Whether it's a cedar privacy fence for your backyard or a decorative gate for your front yard, we use 100% Canadian materials and stand behind our work.

Serving Caledon, Bolton, Orangeville, Shelburne, Alliston, and communities across the North GTA.

    Heather Wilkinson · Backyard Fence

I had a fantastic experience with The Fence and Deck Guys installing over 200 feet of Board and Batten style fencing with 6x6 posts on my property. The ground was extremely tough, but Marc and the crew tackled the job with impressive dedication, often digging by hand to get it done right. Their craftsmanship, professionalism, and attention to detail really stood out. The fence looks great and is built to last. All the neighbors are asking for Marc’s contact info now.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a fence generally cost?

Most residential fence projects in our area start at $55 a linear foot and increase from there. We provide a transparent, line-item quote after measuring on-site so you know exactly what you're paying for before any work begins.

What affects the price of a fence?

Fence pricing depends on several factors:

    • Total linear footage — the length required may alter total pricing.
    • Accessibility — ease of installation such as ground conditions and grade change/obstacles.
    • Fence style and height — height of finished fence, style of fence and material chosen.
    • Post size — choosing the thinner 4×4 inch or thicker 6×6 inch post.

We walk you through all of these on your estimate so there are no surprises.

What fence materials do you work with?

We build with cedar, micro pro brown sienna pressure-treated wood and different types of metal (wrought iron) and aluminum. Each material has different trade-offs for appearance, longevity, maintenance, and budget. During your site visit we'll recommend what makes the most sense for your yard, your neighbours, and how you plan to use the space.

Do I need a permit or permission to build a fence?

For most cases, residential fences don't require a permit — but there are exceptions such as municipal by-laws for things such as the height of the fence.

Mutual cooperation of a shared fence between homeowners should be approved by both parties sharing a property line.

Having a survey of your property also helps in knowing where your property begins and ends.

Ultimately, we'll flag any likely requirements during your estimate and offer solutions before we break ground.

Do you remove and dispose of the old fence?

Yes. If you're replacing an existing fence, we can include teardown, post removal, haul-away, and site cleanup as line items in your quote. Just let us know upfront and we'll factor it into the scope.

What's included in your fence quote?

A complete quote from us will specify: total linear footage, post spacing and depth, material grade, gate hardware, any demolition or removal work, site cleanup, and warranty terms. We don't do ballpark estimates — you'll know exactly what's included before you sign anything.

What warranty do you provide on fence workmanship?

We stand behind our work with a written workmanship warranty. Many fence materials also carry manufacturer warranties for finish and structural integrity. Your quote will spell out exactly what's covered and for how long so there's no guesswork after the job is done.
